The September issue of House & Garden has a four page feature on my home in Swanbourne.

I designed this house with my partner, the very talented architect Suzanne Hunt.

People are always a little surprised that Suzie and I would work together on the one project. It wasn’t difficult because we share so many values. I found it was a real pleasure.

We had two major design objectives. Our first was the bringing together of our two families into a blended family home. Our second priority was to create the feeling that we lived in a beach house because you can walk to the beach from our place.

In terms of materials, this was my first opportunity to work with rammed limestone. It’s a wonderful material and I love the qualities it brings to a room.

The House & Garden style and photo shoot was a lot of fun. Suzie and I sat outside drinking wine and delighting in the process. We were so pleased with Anna Flander’s styling elements we asked if we could buy them and leave them in place.

The one thing I love most about my home is the northern light that floods through the living area. The dogs stretch out and soak it in. We all drift towards the warmth of those rooms when we’re home. It’s a lovely place to connect with each other.
