Here you can see the Swanbourne bridge and the Swanbourne village as it was in the early 1890’s.

The bridge was originally called the ‘Congdon Street Bridge’ and is now less affectionately known by Main Roads WA as ‘Bridge Number 902’. The Swanbourne Railway Station was originally known as the ‘Congdon Street Station’ (from 1904 – 1911) and then known as Osborne Station (1911 – 1921).

Architect, Ron Oldham, arrived in Perth from the East Coast in the 1890’s. He built a residence for himself at 5 Saladin Street, Swanbourne in 1907 that can just be seen at the back of this image. Oldham later lived in 3 Windsor Street just adjacent to the station (near the view point of this photo). Oldham possibly designed the commercial buildings in this photo.
