The Fremantle to Midland train line has a history of timber station buildings and timber footbridges.

This photo is an example of the robust timber structures of the period. The timber truss structure necessary to span the bridge becomes the exposed framework for the bridge balustrade and stairs.

A new pedestrian and bicycle bridge at the Swanbourne village could take such cues from the past.
