Part of a series of posts by Neil Cownie on The Future of Swanbourne Village

This bridge serves pedestrians and cyclists, and was completed in Chengdu, China in 2018. The bridge was designed by ZZHK Architects. The bridge has been named ‘Ruyi’ after a traditional Chinese ‘S’- shaped ornamental object, usually made of Jade, which is a symbol of good luck.

From the architects:

“The design concept is called Sound of Panpipes, as the facade design is inspired by the Chinese Panpipes which is one of the traditional Chinese musical instruments. The undulations and fluttering of the body are like the flow of music rhythm, fresh and elegant. “

The bridge is as much urban sculpture as it is a functional bridge.
