The timber pedestrian bridge across the railway line at Claremont Station is a remaining example of the type of bridge that was found at numerous Perth to Fremantle line stations.

Here you can see both the existing bridge at Claremont Station and the long-gone timber pedestrian bridge at Leederville station. You can see from these photos that the design of both bridges was the same. There are many things about these bridges that give opportunity to be referenced within a new bridge.

There is no need to mimic the past, but clever referencing of the ‘thinness’ of the timber structure, the crossing pattern of the bracing, the arch of the steel supporting structure to the lighting all provide opportunities.
