Part of a series of posts by Neil Cownie on The Future of Swanbourne Village
I propose that the new civic spaces in my scheme for the sustainable future of the Swanbourne Village can serve as areas for weekend markets. What a wonderful experience it would be for the local community to come together across the bridge each weekend to join together in being part of a weekend market.
Such activity would reinforce the principle of the walkable neighbourhood within the proposed pedestrian orientated environment of the Village centre.
The area shown in the scheme for the weekend markets is roughly equivalent to the capacity provided by the successful Mt Claremont School weekend market.
The proposed landscaped civic spaces can serve to be used for other community related activities along with the proposed use as an area for regular market stalls.
